DENZEL WASHINGTON PRONTO PER ‘PELTHAM’, DRAMMA AFFIDATO ALLA REGIA DI TONY SCOTT

- DENZEL WASHINGTON sarà di nuovo nella squadra dell’assiduo collaboratore TONY SCOTT per il remake di THE TAKING OF PELHAM, 1, 2, 3 della Columbia Pictures.
DAVID KOEPP, che ha già sceneggiato ‘Spider-Man 4’ per lo ‘studio’, ha scritto la sceneggiatura.
WASHINGTON interpreterà il ruolo di Zachary ‘Z’ Garber, che fu già di Walter Matthaw nell’originale del 1974 diretto da Joseph Sargent. La storia, basata sul romanzo di John Godey, è andata pure in onda nel film televisivo con Edward James Olmos.
Quest’ultima versione cinematografica è invece ambientata nella New York contemporanea e prende avvio quando in una metropolitana quattro rapinatori prendono il sopravvento, tenendo in ostaggio i passeggeri per il riscatto.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal e Steve Tisch sono i produttori per la Sony-Escape Artists.
La Sony ha previsto il lancio di produzione per il primo quarto del 2008.
WASHINGTON e SCOTT hanno già lavorato insieme a diversi film tra cui Deja Vu e Crimson Tide.
Tra i film di prossima uscita di WASHINGTON è atteso AMERICAN GANGSTER diretto dal fratello di Tony, RIDLEY SCOTT.

DENZEL WASHINGTON SET FOR 'PELHAM'. TONY SCOTT WILL DIRECT HOSTAGE DRAMA
DENZEL WASHINGTON will reteam with frequent collaborator TONY SCOTT on a remake of The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 for Columbia Pictures.
David Koepp, who penned 'Spider-Man 4' for the studio, wrote the screenplay.
Washington will take on the role of Zachary 'Z' Garber, which was played by Walter Matthau in the original 1974 Joseph Sargent-helmed film. The story, based on a novel by John Godey, also spawned a 1998 TV movie starring Edward James Olmos.
The latest incarnation takes place in contemporary New York and is set in motion when four hijackers take over a subway train and hold the passengers for ransom.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing through their Sony-based Escape Artists banner.
Sony will launch production in the first quarter of 2008.
Washington and Scott have worked together on a number of films, including >B>Deja Vu and Crimson Tide. Washington's upcoming credits include American Gangster, helmed by Tony Scott's brother, Ridley.
Washington recently wrapped production on his latest directorial effort, The Great Debaters.
Scott's recent helming credits include the Keira Knightley starrer Domino.
