Julianne Moore to Get Giffoni Film Festival's Truffaut Award. The Academy Award-winning actress will be honored with the Italian fest’s top prize

07/07/2017 - Julianne Moore will head to Italy this summer to be honored with the Francois Truffaut Award at the Giffoni Film Fest on July 16.

The Giffoni is one of the largest film festivals dedicated to children and teenagers. Thousands of young people come from all over the world to learn about filmmaking and judge films on special juries, while meeting international stars. French New Wave director Truffaut himself visited the festival in 1982 and was so impressed that he wrote a letter saying, “Of all the film festivals, Giffoni is the most necessary.” The Academy Award and Golden Globe winning actress (Still Alice) has worked with iconic directors throughout her career, including Robert Altman, Steven Spielberg, Joel and Ethan Coen, Paul Thomas Anderson, Gus Van Sant and Todd Haynes. Moore also was nominated for Academy Awards for Far From Heaven (2002), The Hours (2002), The End of the Affair (1999) and Boogie Nights (1997). She received a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her work in Game Change (2012) and an additional special ensemble Golden Globe for Short Cuts (1994). This year, Moore stars in Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck, which debuted in Cannes, and will next appear in Kingsman: The Golden Circle (along with Colin Firth and Halle Berry) and in George Clooney’s Suburbicon, opposite Matt Damon, all being released in the fall. The Francois Truffaut award has been given out in Giffoni since 1988. Past recipients include Bud Spencer, Jeremy Irons, Michelangelo Antonioni, Abbas Kiarostami, Alberto Sordi, Ben Kingsley, Edward Norton, Jean Reno, Giancarlo Giannini and Alan Rickman. The 47th Giffoni Film Festival takes place July 14-22, with other honorees this year including Bryan Cranston, Amy Adams and Kit Harington.
