- Hot off of an appearance at Comic-Con for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Eddie Redmayne has been cast in the Industrial Age historical drama The Last Days of Night. Morten Tyldum is set to direct from a script by Graham Moore. The director-writer team worked on the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, which won Moore a best adapted screenplay Oscar nod.
The Last Days of Night is based on Graham's book of the same name that is set to be published by Random House in August. It chronicles the legal battle between titans of industry Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, who were racing to patent the technology for electric light. Edison, who won the patents for the technology, turned around and sued Westinghouse for an unheard-of one billion dollars. Redmayne will play lawyer Paul Cravath, a recent Columbia law school grad and untested lawyer who was hired by Westinghouse as legal representation. For fans of turn-of-the century inventors, Nikola Tesla, Alexander Graham Bell and Stanford White are also set to make appearances in the The Last Days of Night. Teddy Schwarzman's Black Bear Pictures will fully finance the project, with Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky acting as producers. The Oscar-winning English actor will next be on the big screen in November in the highly anticipated Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts, as magizoologist Newt Scamander. Redmayne is repped by CAA, the U.K.'s United Agents, Parseghian Planco and Untitled.
