- After playing the Miracle Mop inventor in David O. Russell's Joy, Jennifer Lawrence could be taking on another woman in business, this time portraying the founder of Theranos, the controversial blood-testing startup.
Lawrence is attached to star in the currently untitled film, while Adam McKay is attached to direct, write and produce. The project is not currently set up at a studio.
Lawrence will play Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the blood-testing startup that at one time boasted a $9 billion valuation. Theranos' projected value has since plummeted, following news that the company is under investigation for inaccurate testing that took place at their California labs.
The 32-year-old entrepreneur, who is rarely seen without a black turtleneck, has continued to stand by Theranos despite CMS regulators trying to ban her for two years from owning or operating a blood lab. Lawrence will next be seen in sci-fi love story Passengers opposite Chris Pratt, and she is attached to director Darren Aronofsky's upcoming project starring Javier Bardem and Domhnall Gleeson. The actress is repped by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson. McKay, who shifted away from previous comedic projects such as Step Brothers with the critically acclaimed drama The Big Short, is repped by WME and Mosaic.
