- Daniel Craig and Katherine Heigl are the latest to join Steven Soderbergh's hillbilly heist comedy Logan Lucky, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Heigl is attached, sources say, and Craig has an offer, with negotiations expected to commence shortly. The film, which was being shopped as a hot package in Cannes, stars Channing Tatum and Michael Shannon and boasts Adam Driver, Riley Keough and Seth MacFarlane in supporting roles. Soderbergh, who hasn't helmed a movie since 2013's medical thriller Side Effects and vowed that he was retired from film, is making the switch back to the big screen with Logan Lucky, which is being sold by FilmNation for international rights. Tatum and Shannon will play brothers who plan a heist during a high-profile NASCAR race. Production is scheduled to begin in the fall.
Gregory Jacobs, Mark Johnson and Reid Carolin are producing. Craig is not expected to return to the James Bond franchise, and a supporting role in a Soderbergh film might seem an unconventional choice. But the director is never at a loss when it comes to luring major talent. Craig is repped by CAA, Independent Talent Group in the U.K. and attorney Douglas R. Stone. Heigl once had one of the hottest film careers in Hollywood after her star turn in 2007's Knocked Up, but it has cooled significantly in recent years. Landing a lead female role in Logan Lucky would give her big-screen career a jolt. She is handled by WME, Silver Lining Entertainment and attorney Stephen Barnes.
