- After last year’s Capalbio International Film Festival partnership with the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Workshop, this year the festival is upping its game once again by bringing on one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood to mentor young writers and directors.
The upcoming Capalbio Future Storyteller Lab has announced Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow as a mentor at this year’s edition of the fest, which will take place June 29-July 2 in the medieval town of Capalbio in Tuscany. Trevorrow recently co-wrote and directed Jurassic World, the fourth highest-grossing film of all time. The three-day workshop during the festival allows six European filmmakers a chance to work on freshman and sophomore scripts. The 2016 edition will focus on new formats and technologies, including video mapping, video gaming, virtual reality and creative documentary, led by a group of international industry veterans. The workshop also will feature a selection of virtual reality short films from the SXSW Film Conference and Festival. “We would like young contemporary directors to get familiar with new technologies without losing the essence at the core of their projects: telling a story. This is the aim at the roots of the Capalbio Future Storyteller Lab,” explained the festival’s artistic director Tommaso Mottola. The deadline to apply for the workshop is June 3. Capalbio was founded by Michelangelo Antonioni to showcase global cinema talent. This year’s theme of “Man After Machine” will address the future of film across its programming.
