- "You feel very confident as an actor that what you're doing is going to be placed into a well-told story," Rylance, who previously teamed with the director on 'Bridge of Spies,' told THR.
During a sit-down with The Hollywood Reporter at the Cannes Film Festival to discuss Steven Spielberg's The BFG, co-stars Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill had nothing but praise for the director. Barnhill, the young lead of Spielberg's adaptation of the classic children's book, admitted to being completely starstruck upon meeting him for the first time on the set of Bridge of Spies. "Steven came in and I was, like, literally shaking. I was like, 'Oh my goodness,'" she recalled to THR. "After the first five minutes, I literally just felt like really, really comfortable straight away."
Rylance, who previously worked with the director on Spies, complimented Spielberg's commitment to storytelling, saying, "How you tell a story — Steven's constantly always thinking about that. So, you feel very confident as an actor that what you're doing is going to be placed into a well-told story." Spielberg added, "When I find a story that I want to tell, I tell it. I don't wait. I'm very impatient. If I get excited, I don't want that excitement to wane. ... I'm going to have a busy next couple of years."
