- Just hours after winning her first Oscar for 'best actress', Room star Brie Larson returned to the Dolby Theatre to appear on Live With Kelly and Michael's early-morning show.
Dressed casually but still clutching her Oscar, Larson recounted the surreal, magical experience of having Eddie Redmayne present her with the award. Calling the Theory of Everything star her "fairy godmother," since he's presented her with various awards she won this season, including the Oscar, after he won the best actor prize last year, Larson said Redmayne, who sat next to her, warned her she'd really start to get nervous when he left the audience to present her category. "He told me, 'You're going to be fine until they call me to come up and present, and once that happens, you're going to like, need some Depends.' It's totally true," Larson recalled. "They very slyly pulled him away, and I was like, 'Oh no'…. It was like, 'Is this going to happen again?' When he called my name, it's a weird out-of-body experience."
Indeed, Larson indicated that everything that happened after she walked onstage and he hugged her was a surreal blur. "I don't know what I said at all," she admitted. "I hope I thanked people." She also indicated that as Redmayne led her offstage into a "weird hallway with tons of photographers," it was like she was being taken on a magical journey, joking that she felt like she was in his new movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Larson also sarcastically insisted that she hadn't stayed up all night for the live show at 6 a.m. PT. "I did not dance all night. I didn't hang out with Lorde and Taylor Swift. I went to sleep. I didn't do that," Larson said before giving the co-hosts a look, making a sheepish face and laughing. "I didn't just shove a bagel in my face and a cup of coffee and come out here, at all."
The actress, who is in the middle of filming Kong: Skull Island in Vietnam and is heading back there today, explained that her driver was going to take her Oscar home for her while she went to the airport and that she was relieved that she won after her long, scary trip from Vietnam to L.A. "It was like three really sketchy flights, and I was like, 'I really hope that I win, because otherwise I risked my life for…' "
