INDIANA JONES E IL QUINTO MACGUFFIN

09/10/2008 - HARRISON FORD ha dichiarato al “LA Times” che è arrivato il momento di realizzare il V° film della serie INDIANA JONES e che GEORGE LUCAS è già pronto con una nuova storia idonea al progetto.
“E’ folle ma grande - ha detto il sessantaseienne FORD - “GEORGE è al momento sulla lunghezza d’onda giusta”.
INDIANA JONES E IL REGNO DEL TESCHIO DI CRISTALLO ha incassato complessivamente 318 milioni di dollari solo negli USA e 770 milioni nel resto del mondo e c’è ancora da attendere quello che sarà il risultato della vendita in DVD e Blu-Ray, in uscita programmata per il 14 Ottobre.
Si tratta di un film che molti a Hollywood pensavano non sarebbe mai stato fatto, considerando la difficoltà di trovare il momento e lo script giusti per riunire FORD, LUCAS e il regista ‘istituzionale’ STEVEN SPIELBERG, dopo l’ultimo film della trilogia del 1989 INDIANA JONES E L’ULTIMA CROCIATA.
Ora, invece, sull’onda del più recente successo e del fatto che la vecchia macchina del blockbuster è ripartita, FORD ha pensato che un V° film non solo è una strada praticabile, ma persino allettante.
“Va da sé che se noi siamo andati bene con l’ultimo, come è stato, anche nel senso di un’esperienza positiva, non potrà sorprendere il fatto che ora ci siano persone che vogliano farlo di nuovo” – ha detto FORD.
FORD ha detto anche che non vorrebbe fosse fatto un film d’animazione per INDIANA JONES, idea che potrebbe al limite diventare un’opzione possibile dopo che LUCAS ha portato la sua saga cinematografica di STAR WARS nel regno generato al computer con LA GUERRA DEI CLONI questa estate. “In linea di principio io non sono contrario a convertire dei ruoli per l’animazione, ma questo non va bene per ‘INDIANA JONES’” – ha dichiarato FORD - “Non sopporterei di vederlo ridotto in qualche altro modo rispetto alla dimensione cinematografica, così come lo abbiamo fatto e rispetto a come abbiamo fatto i suoi film”.
L’iconica star ha confessato di nutrire seri dubbi riguardo alla possibilità di vedere il suo intramontabile eroico archeologo ridotto ad una ‘automatica sensazione del XXI° secolo.
“(Indiana Jones) Non è mai stato una certezza (nel senso di un film destinato al successo sicuro) - ha detto FORD - E' il genere di rischio da mettere nel conto quando si tratta di business, ma credo che sia stato liquidato. Vederlo raggiungere il successo che ha avuto è stato un qualcosa che ci ha sorpreso e gratificato allo stesso tempo. E’ stato un successo clamoroso ovunque. La prima volta che lo abbiamo presentato è stato a Cannes, vale a dire ad un imparziale pubblico straniero. Quel che si dice un lancio azzardato di prim’ordine. Non solo quello è il genere di audience sofisticato e bene informato in materia di cinema, è Francese! E si tratta del loro Paese e del loro Festival e noi ci aspettavamo di essere ‘schiaffeggiati’ seriamente e piuttosto in fretta. Ma così non è stato, siamo stati ‘abbracciati’ (nel senso dell’entusiastica accoglienza del film)… e questo è stato molto gratificante”.

INDIANA JONES AND THE FIFTH MACGUFFIN

Harrison Ford told “The LA Times” that momentum is building for a fifth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise and that George Lucas is already cooking up a suitable plot for the project.
“It’s crazy but great” - the 66-year-old Ford said - “George is in think mode right now.”
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull grossed $318 million in the U.S. alone and $770 million worldwide and is expected to be powerhouse seller on DVD and Blu-Ray when it arrives in stores Oct. 14. It was a film that many people in Hollywood assumed would never be made considering the difficulty in finding the right time and the right script to reunite FORD, LUCAS and franchise director STEVEN SPIELBERG after the 1989 hit Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Now, though, the latest success and the fact that the franchise’s old machinery was revived has Ford thinking a fifth movie is not only a viable idea, but an attractive one.
“It’s automatic, really, we did well with the last one and with that having done well and been a positive experience, it’s not surprising that some people want to do it again” - Ford said.
Ford said, though, he would not be game to making an animated Indiana Jones film, a notion that became at least a possible option after Lucas took his Star Wars theatrical saga into the computer-generated realm with The Clone Wars this summer.
“I’m not philosophically against doing animation roles but not for Indiana Jones” - Ford said. “I’d hate to see it reduced in any way from the movies that we have done and the way we have done them.”
The iconic star said he had some doubts that his long-gone archaeologist hero would be an automatic 21st century sensation.
“It was never a lead-pipe cinch” - Ford said - “It was a calculated business risk but I believe it paid off. I was somewhat surprised and gratified to see it did the business that it did. It was successful in almost every market. The first time we showed it to a disinterested outside audience was at Cannes. That’ s a crap shoot of the first order. Not only is that audience sophisticated and film-knowledgable, it’s French! And it’s their country and their festival and we somewhat expected to be seriously slapped around. But we were not, we were embraced...it was very gratifying.”
