Cineasta a tutto tondo, scrive, dirige e produce i suoi film, e, sotto altro nome, ne firma la fotografia (Peter Andrews) o il montaggio (Mary Ann Bernard). Con The Good German/Intrigo a BerlinoSTEVEN SODERBERGH è al suo sedicesimo film dopo Bubble, Ocean's Twelve, Solaris, Full Frontal, Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Out of Sight, e molti altri titoli tra cui diversi a fianco con GEORGE CLOONEY con cui, dal 2000 ha fondato la casa di produzione 'Section Eight'.
SODERBERGH dichiara che Scott Z. Burns (lo sceneggiatore) è bravissimo con quella che chiama 'la matematica del racconto':
