'CELLULOID PORTRAITS' rende Omaggio alla Memoria di ROBIN WILLIAMS - "Volevamo che il viaggio di Larry fosse ancora più avvincente, che lo aiutasse a ritrovare la parte migliore di sé, quella di cui ha all’improvviso preso coscienza in 'Una notte al museo'. Ben Stiller e io eravamo d’accordo che la favola non avrebbe avuto un seguito, a meno di avere una nuova, grande storia. Perciò, quando ci è venuta l’idea di portare Larry e i suoi amici allo Smithsonian, abbiamo capito di essere sulla strada giusta. Non avremmo potuto essere più entusiasti... Nello sviluppare la nuova storia, credo che siamo riusciti a trasporre molti dei tratti che gli spettatori hanno amato nel primo film: è divertente, sensibile e spettacolare. Ma noi andiamo oltre questi aspetti, verso qualcosa di nuovo. Stavolta non abbiamo soltanto un uomo in fuga dalle mostre che hanno preso vita. La vicenda è emotivamente più interessante perché il legame tra Larry e Amelia diventa il cuore del film. Volevamo non solo realizzare un sequel più sbalorditivo e avventuroso, ma anche approfondire i temi e le relazioni, e la sceneggiatura ha rispecchiato i nostri propositi. Amelia (Earhart, l'avventurosa aviatrice in mostra all'Air and Space Museum) è una donna focosa e vive con Larry una magnifica avventura romantica perché entrambi sanno che, al mattino, lei tornerà ad essere una statua di cera... È sorprendente vedere i piloti del reparto Tuskegee Airmen, il cui ruolo è stato così importante nella storia americana, che ringraziano Amelia Earhart per il ruolo che ha avuto nell’abbattere le barriere della discriminazione nel campo dell’aviazione. Queste conversazioni non avrebbero mai potuto avere luogo nella realtà, ma accrescono il potenziale della commedia e, in qualche modo, sono una fonte d’ispirazione... La novità dell’arte che prende vita nella Galleria è stata particolarmente emozionante per me che sono un appassionato d’arte. C’è di tutto, dal paesaggio agreste del dipinto American Gothic a Nighthawks di Edward Hopper, fino alla foto del VJ Day di Alfred Eisenstaedt. È stato emozionante lasciare la realtà ed entrare in questi mondi virtuali, all’interno di alcune delle mie opere d’arte preferite. Ma ben altro prende vita: il celebre Pensatore di Rodin, una ballerina di Degas e molte altre creature, tra cui un calamaro gigante".

"We wanted everything we did in the first movie to be not only bigger but better in the second. We wanted a journey for Larry that would be even more captivating, that would help him find his way back to the better self he got a glimpse of in Night at the Museum. Ben Stiller and I had always agreed that we wouldn’t continue this tale unless we had a great new story – so when the idea came up of taking Larry and his friends to the Smithsonian, we knew this was it. We couldn’t have been more excited... In developing the new story, I think we brought out a lot of the traits that people loved about the first movie – it’s funny, warm-hearted and full of spectacle. But we also go beyond that, towards something new. This time it’s not just a guy running away from exhibits that have come to life. It’s emotionally more interesting because the love story between Larry and Amelia becomes the heart of the movie. Our goal was to make the sequel more astounding and adventurous, but also to deepen the themes and relationships, and this screenplay pulls it off. Amelia’s a spitfire and she and Larry have a wonderful, bittersweet romance because they know she will be wax again when morning comes... It’s amazing to have the Tuskegee Airmen, who were so important to American history, have the opportunity to thank Amelia Earhart for blazing the way towards breaking down barriers of prejudice in flying. These are conversations that never could have happened in real life but they bring great potential for comedy as well as a little historical inspiration.... The new element of art coming to life in the gallery was a particular thrill for me as an art lover. You have everything from the American Gothic farmland landscape to Edward Hopper’s ‘Nighthawks,’ to the VJ Day photo by [Alfred] Eisenstaedt. It was a thrill to leave the real world and go into these virtual worlds, inside some of my own favorite works of art. We also have famous sculptures come to life: ‘The Thinker’ by Rodin, a Degas ballerina and lots of other creatures, including a massive Octopus."
