"Prima di scrivere questo romanzo, quasi nessuno conosceva la storia di Maria Bolena. E’ un personaggio nascosto, soprattutto perché gli storici non si sono interessati a lei, dato che la sua presenza non ha avuto un vero peso nello svolgimento degli eventi. Tuttavia la sua storia rivelava un contrasto fra le sorelle, una dialettica che assume toni molto interessanti e che diventa una parabola del modo in cui le donne sfruttano le proprie opportunità".
