Sinossi:
Quando la sua famiglia si trasferisce dalla città alla periferia, Margaret, 11 anni, naviga tra nuovi amici, sentimenti e l'inizio dell'adolescenza.
Margaret Simon ha solo undici anni e dodici anni quando la sua famiglia si trasferisce da New York a Farbrook, nel New Jersey. La madre di Margaret è cristiana e suo padre è ebreo. Margaret è cresciuta senza un'affiliazione a nessuna delle due fedi, e non pratica una religione organizzata, anche se spesso prega Dio con le sue stesse parole, iniziando dicendo: "Ci sei Dio? Sono io, Margaret". Comincia a sentirsi a disagio per la sua mancanza di affiliazione religiosa.
Per un compito scolastico, sceglie di studiare le credenze religiose delle persone, sperando di risolvere la questione della propria religione nel processo. Parte del suo studio prevede la frequentazione di diversi luoghi di culto per comprendere meglio la pratica religiosa e anche per vedere se uno di loro potrebbe essere giusto per lei.
Le piace passare il tempo con la nonna paterna ebrea, Sylvia Simon, che la ama così com'è, e spera che Margaret abbracci l'ebraismo dopo averla portata nella sua sinagoga per i servizi di Rosh Hashanah.
Synopsis:
When her family moves from the city to the suburbs, 11-year-old Margaret navigates new friends, feelings, and the beginning of adolescence.
Margaret Simon is just eleven going on twelve when her family moves from New York City to Farbrook, New Jersey. Margaret's mother is Christian and her father is Jewish. Margaret has been raised without an affiliation to either faith, and does not practice an organized religion, although she frequently prays to God in her own words, beginning by saying, "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret." She is beginning to feel uncomfortable with her lack of a religious affiliation. For a school assignment, she chooses to study people's religious beliefs, hoping to resolve the question of her own religion in the process. Part of her study involves attending different places of worship to better understand religious practice and also to see if one of them might be right for her. She enjoys spending time with her Jewish paternal grandmother, Sylvia Simon, who loves her as she is, and hopes Margaret will embrace Judaism after taking her to her synagogue for Rosh Hashanah services
