QUALI MISTERI SI CELANO DIETRO QUELLA CELEBRE 'RONDA DI NOTTE' DI REMBRANDT? CE LO ILLUSTRA PETER GREENAWAY

“Sono quattro le idee su Rembrandt che, espresse quasi come domande, sono state sorgenti per ‘NIGHTWATCHING’, e suppongo di aver riflettuto su di esse, di tanto in tanto, fin da quando frequentavo la scuola d’arte, a metà degli anni sessanta, quando la reputazione di Rembrandt era inviolabile tra i miei docenti. Queste idee potrebbero essere così riassunte: ‘soldi’, ‘sesso’, ‘cospirazione’ e la ‘vera condizione del dipingere’. La prima domanda è sociale, la seconda domanda voyeuristica, la terza domanda è intellettuale e la quarta domanda è filosofica e, probabilmente, sebbene il pubblico potrebbe vederla come tale, l’ultima domanda è la più importante”.

- NIGHT WATCHING - (Comment by PATRIZIA FERRETTI) :
Sophisticated and refined package for this film 'Night watching' by the painter and director Peter Greenaway, who back in Venice after sixteen years. The idea comes from the famous and controversial Dutch painter Rembrandt painting, doubtful named 'The Night Watch' becomes the excuse for a look, half way through pure theatre brought into celluloid, painting - that is inquires into up close and the colours techniques – and cross sections of everyday life at that time. A precise look the art tied deeply to the life of Rembrandt. The main character that, as in the theatre, doesn’t lack the opportunity to talk to his audience with the introduction of other characters and situations that are extremely important for his growing both as painter and as a man. A journey within and for the painting, and in the background all the others, that are identifiable by the same photogram throughout the movie because they are the expression of the reality of those days, the personal expression of a painter who was accommodating and rebel, unconventional and absolutely sensitive, undoubtedly he wasn’t lacking of any contradiction, to find himself so involved into both big falls and big successes. Paintings/photogram – as already done by the French director Planchon in 'Lautrec' – look like impersonated the darker medieval ages, with all the dramas lived by the people of those times, with a particular look at the female portion, weighed down by a sexual slavery brought to the extreme with the incest and with all the children born in the wrong place at the wrong time, fated to died at young age, to the orphanage, or to be overworked in different ways, anyway always without a future. In the movie there’s not lack of pieces of lyricism, a little bit to slow and without new style, that try to redeem the night in the soul. Flashes, not actually spasms of light through the darkness, painted and lived.

Sinossi:
“Nel 1642 il celebre e ricco pittore olandese Rembrandt accetta con riluttanza di dipingere la ‘Milizia Civica di Amsterdam’ in un ritratto di gruppo, conosciuto in seguito come ‘La Ronda di Notte’. Mentre lavorava al dipinto scopre che gli ufficiali della Milizia, per lo più comuni cittadini e mercanti che giocano a fare i soldati dopo la fine della guerra con la Spagna, stanno cospirando e tramando, per fini di lucro, nella città più ricca d’Europa. Il pittore scopre un assassinio e la sua fortuna cambia. La moglie Saskia muore. Rembrandt sfida i suoi committenti con il quadro ‘J’accuse’, un vero e proprio atto di accusa su tela contro il tradimento della Milizia. I cospiratori negano le accuse pubblicamente e in segreto mettono in atto un piano per vendicarsi di lui, screditandolo. Convincono la serva Geertjie, dietro ricompensa, a diventare la sua amante per poterne distruggere la reputazione davanti agli occhi di quella borghesia, pia e devota, ce commissionava i suoi quadri, in un mondo rigidamente moralistico e tutore della rispettabilità. Vogliono la sua rovina sociale ed economica e tentano persino di renderlo cieco. Messo al bando dal mondo degli affari e dalla società, Rembrandt trova sostegno e consolazione in un’altra serva, Hendrickje. ‘La Ronda di Notte’, eccezionale per quanto riguarda i giochi di luce, è il quadro di Rembrandt più celebrato, nonostante la campagna propagandistica attuata con successo dai detrattori del pittore. Solo ora, però, si è scoperta la reale importanza del dipinto che se da una parte ha contribuito a consolidare la reputazione di Rembrandt come il pittore forse più celebrato di tutti i tempi in Europa, dall’altra ha creato le circostanze che determinarono la sua rovina sociale e finanziaria”.

LO SPUNTO TEMATICO APPUNTATO SU UN NOTISSIMO E CONTROVERSO QUADRO DEL PITTORE OLANDESE REMBRANDT, DENOMINATO PER UN EQUIVOCO ‘LA RONDA DI NOTTE’, DIVENTA IL PRETESTO ELETTIVO PER UNO SGUARDO, A META’ STRADA TRA PURO TEATRO TRASPOSTO SULLA CELLULOIDE, PITTURA - INDAGATA IN PRIMISSIMI PIANI E DISQUISIZIONI TECNICHE FIN SUI COLORI - E SPACCATI DI QUOTIDIANO DELL’EPOCA.
