- Tom Hanks is set to be honored at this year's Museum of Modern Art film benefit on Nov. 15.
Hanks, who will be recognized with a gala dinner and tribute, has two highly anticipated movies hitting theaters this fall: Sully, the tale of the pilot responsible for the "Miracle on the Hudson" landing, and Inferno, the latest film based on Dan Brown's DaVinci Code book series. In conjunction with the tribute, MoMA also will present a Nov. 8-14 screening series of the following Hanks films: A League of Their Own, Philadelphia, Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and The Ladykillers. The two-time Oscar winner joins previous MoMA honorees including Cate Blanchett, Alfonso Cuaron, Tilda Swinton, Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodovar, Kathryn Bigelow, Tim Burton and Baz Luhrmann. "Tom Hanks is a true force in cinema," MoMA film curator Rajendra Roy said Thursday in a statement. "His work as an actor has brought him both movie stardom and the deep respect of his peers. Together with his work behind the camera as a writer, director and especially a producer, he has been an essential figure in American storytelling for more than 35 years. We are thrilled to honor him this year."
