- LONDON - HELENA BONHAM CARTER will be presented with the RICHARD HARRIS AWARD and LIAM NEESON will receive the VARIETY AWARD at the 13th edition of the British Independent Film Awards.
BIFA joint directors Johanna von Fischer and Tessa Collinson announced the awards on Wednesday.
The Richard Harris Award, named after the late thesp, is given for outstanding contribution to British film by an actor. Daniel Day-Lewis received it last year and previous recipients include John Hurt, David Thewlis, Bob Hoskins and Jim Broadbent.
Bonham Carter has a BIFA supporting actress nomination this year for THE KING'S SPEECH.
The Variety Award recognizes an actor, director, writer or producer who has helped to put the international spotlight on the U.K. Past recipients include Michael Caine last year, and Helen Mirren, Richard Curtis, Michael Sheen and Keira Knightley in earlier editions.
Producer Duncan Kenworthy has been added to the BIFA jury as chair and joining him will be new additions director Franny Armstrong and Clare Binns, director of programming at City Screen.
Previously announced jury members include editor Mags Arnold, producers Finola Dwyer and Andy Harries, actors Matthew Goode, Sean Pertwee, Jamie Sives and Gemma Jones, directors David Mackenzie and James Marsh, writer Matt Greenhalgh, writer, critic and festival programmer Hannah McGill, film critic Jason Solomons and production designer Gary Williamson.
The Awards Ceremony will take place Dec. 5 in London.
