INDISCREZIONI DAL SET DI 'HARRY POTTER E IL PRINCIPE MEZZOSANGUE'

In un'intervista con la rivista “NewsWeek” riguardo i cambiamenti sul set di Harry Potter, il direttore artistico Stuart Craig ha detto che ha gia’ iniziato a lavorare sul sesto film, Harry Potter e il Principe mezzosangue.

Craig sta disegnando le scene per il sesto film Harry Potter ed il Principe mezzosangue, inclusa la torre d’astronomia dove il nostro beneamato personaggio verra’ a sapere in maniera repentina della sua morte. "Deve essere così impressionante, bello e pungente" - dice Craig - "Non vedo l’ora di farlo". E’ cosi ansioso di mettere le mani sul settimo libro di J.K. Rowling, e finalmente, di mettere in scena il libro Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows che uscira' in libreria in lingua originale il 21 luglio 2007, giusto una settimana dopo l’uscita del film Harry Potter e l’Ordine della Fenice. "Non posso aspettare - dice - "Dobbiamo sapere quali set dobbiamo lasciare per l’ultimo film". Ma neppure con questa scusa riesce ad ottenere un’occhiata di privilegio. "Non mi e’ mai successo prima - ci dice con una risata - "devo andare in libreria … come tutti gli altri ammiratori".
Anche gli ammiratori piu’ instancabili di Harry Potter sembrano non aver notato che Hogwarts ha avuto dei rinnovamenti dopo i primi due film. "Come entri nella Grande Sala e la torre che occupa l’ufficio del Professor Silente sono alla tua sinistra, c’e’ un viadotto che connette una serie di edifici sulla destra", dice il direttore artistico, Premio Oscar, Stuart Craig che ha disegnato tutti e cinque i film di Potter, incluso quello che uscira’ quest’estate Harry Potter e l’Ordine della Fenice. "Se guardi alla destra di quel viadotto ci sono stati cambiamenti significativi: tutto un set nuovo di torri e scale a chiocciola. Qualcosa e’ stato fatto per migliorare una particolare angolazione delle riprese, ma altre volte e’ solo perche’ ero ansioso di migliorare la figura" - dice - "Nessuno ha avuto da ridire niente, per ora, e probabilmente non diranno mai niente". Craig ha fatto diversi cambiamenti alla casa di Hagrid che era una capanna composta da una sola stanza ottagonale nel primo film, ma Craig ha aggiunto una camera sul dietro "Siamo abbastanza cavalieri per quanto riguarda l’abilita’ di cambiare le cose" - ha detto - "Le restrizioni sono sempre a livello economico. Se lo studio cinematografico avesse gia’ pagato per qualcosa, effettivamente non vogliono che tu vada e lo cambi" (Il film ha avuto un incasso totale di 3,5 miliardi di dollari in tutto il mondo, così che la Warner Bros. si puo’ permettere un’estensione della capanna).
L’entrata principale a Hogwarts e’ nuova. Nel primo film era stata usata una sede reale, il College Christ Church a Oxford. Per il secondo film, fu sostituita con una costruzione sul set. La stazione ferroviaria del villaggio di Hogsmeade e’ stata riutilizzata per l’Ordine della Fenice. E’ stata una costruzione effettiva delle brughiere nel Nord Yorkshire. Per questo film, Craig ha creato un nuovo set vicino agli studi cinematografici Pinewood. Gli alberi della Foresta Proibita sono piu’ grandi. A proposito di crescita, i letti nel dormitorio Grifondoro sono stati allungati – lo stesso per i banchi nelle classi – per stare al passo con gli attori che diventano grandi. In an interview with Newsweek about changes to the Harry Potter set, artistic director Stuart Craig mentioned that he's already started working on the sixth movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Craig is now designing sets for the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, including the astronomy tower where a beloved character will plummet to his death. "It has to be impressive and beautiful and poignant" - Craig says - "So I'm looking forward to doing that. He's also anxious to get his hands on J. K. Rowling's seventh, and final, book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" due in stores July 21, one week after Phoenix hits screens. "I can't wait" - he says - "We need to know which sets to retain for the last film" Not that he'll get an early peek. "I never have before" - he says, and laughs - "I just have to go to the bookshop — like every other fan".

Even obsessive Harry Potter fans don't seem to have noticed that Hogwarts has had a makeover from the first two films. "As you approach, the Great Hall and the tower housing Professor Dumbledore's office are off to the left, and there's a viaduct connecting them to a series of buildings on the right", says Oscar-winning art director Stuart Craig, who has designed all five Potter movies, including this summer's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. "If you look to the right of that viaduct, there are considerable changes there": a whole new set of towers and spires. "Sometimes it was done to improve a particular shot, but sometimes it was just because I was anxious to improve the silhouette" - he says - "Nobody's objected so far, and hopefully they won't". Craig has made lots of alterations to Harry's world over the past six years. He agreed to share a few of them in an exclusive NEWSWEEK interview:
Hagrid's house was an octagonal one-room hut in the first film, but Craig added a bedroom in the back. "We're quite cavalier about our ability to change things" - he says - "The restriction is always money. If the studio already paid for something, they don't particularly want you to go and change it" (The films have grossed $3.5 billion worldwide, so Warner Bros. can afford a hut extension).
The main entrance to Hogwarts is new. The first movie used a real location, Christ Church College at Oxford. For the second film, it was replaced with a built set.
Hogsmeade Station has been reconceived for Phoenix". It had been an actual location in the North Yorkshire moors. For this film, Craig created a new set in the woods near Pinewood Studios.
The trees in the Forbidden Forest are bigger. And speaking of growth, the beds in the Gryffindor dormitory have been extended—ditto the classroom desks—to keep pace with actors who've become teens.
